Kopke 40 year old Tawny
A Tawny made from extremely old and specially selected wines from Kopke's lodge with a completely unusual complexity.
The color is mahogany with greenish nuances and great intensity. In the nose, the acidity is immediately noticeable with ripe fruit, rancio and oxidation aromas, which are reminiscent of a pharmacy, camphor and herbs! The volatile acidity provides a brilliant complexity in an ultra-long finale, which seems drier than younger ports, as they lose some of their sweetness with age and also get more counterplay from the acidity. A wine that, with its great age, is completely its own and sweeps away all expectations of an easy-to-understand port wine!
If you like juicy primary fruit, you should stay far away, because this is not a cheap port wine, but if you like aged tertiary aromas, then this is a heavenly elixir that should be enjoyed without food, in carefully selected company and preferably with a Chesterfield sofa as the only accessory.
