Krohn's Late Bottled Vintage is one of the few that is made using exactly the same method as Vintage Port: without filtration, fining and cold bottling, except for the double time in barrel before bottling. An intensely berry-flavored wine from the best grapes, as Krohn chose not to make a vintage in the year. Great with strong cheeses, especially blue ones, nuts and chocolate desserts - or all by itself.

Late Bottled Vintage / LBV is a port wine from a single vintage that has the characteristics of the vintage and the producer. In contrast to Vintage Port, the wine is left in the barrel for 4-4½ years before bottling (late bottled). It is still a very dark, intensely fruity wine, but with the longer time in the barrel, a larger part of the massive tannic acid content in the young wine has precipitated in the barrel before bottling. The wine is in principle ready to drink when it is bottled, and there is not nearly as much sediment, but almost all better LBVs will gain further with continued aging. It tolerates being open somewhat better than Vintage Port, but the top qualities are lost more quickly than in a barrel-aged Colheita Port.
